Rotorua: Welcome to Hobbiton

Day 1

I got in to Rotorua from Auckland around 9.30pm and walked to my hostel, Crash Palace, which was cheap and nice. Unfortunately I arrived to beer pong on Saturday night, but by the time I showered the exhaustion set in and I passed out. The next morning I woke up for my first tour, and since I am a massive Lord of the Rings fan it was at the top of my list, Hobbiton.

Good morning Hobbiton!

Hobbiton was amazing! The sun came out, it wasn’t too busy, it was just perfect!

A view across the lake and The Green Dragon

This tour was the only thing I booked in advance and it was so worth it. Definitely check it out, the scenery in the area is just stunning as well. Also the Green Dragon serves beers and ciders that are brewed right there! I got one drink included with my tour and I had the apple cider and it was fantastic!

From there we hopped on our bus back to Rotorua for lunch at Fat Dog, really good! And then I went for a walk around the lake. Rotorua was so cool, it felt like you had gone back in time. There was steam coming out of the ground everywhere you turned and since I had never seen all this geothermal activity before then next tour I booked was to Wai-o-tapu!

New Zealand is my boyfriend’s dream destination. I admit the more I see of this very diverse country, the more I want to go! Rotorua looks so lovely and green!
